DEVIN: We’re lucky to have her
A local newspaper can be a terrific thing, when you have a great writer like Devin Weeks. Some years ago I tried to start up a Jr. ROTC program in our school district. I had overwhelming support by the district and local business for a funding source. There is no structured information on this program, none whatsoever, so I contacted Jessica Mahuron, a great young woman, and she established a meeting with the League of Women Voters.
I showed up with all branches of our military services, all looking handsome in their Class A’s. And The Press sent Devin Weeks, a super, cool kid and great writer.
I’m writing this because all these years later I received an email from a mom looking into it for her son who has aspirations of a military career. And I was just taken aback at how Devin could write an article that would stick in someone’s mind after all these years. That’s what a local newspaper is for. We are lucky to have one, especially with a writer such as Devin. Well done, young lady. I couldn’t be more impressed.
