USYS Far West Presidents Cup: Thorns '07 girls win, advance to national tourney

PHOENIX — Marisol Stosich, Grace Hatch, Ella Bleffert and Jamie Lawrence scored in the shootout as the Thorns North 2007 girls red beat Albion of Boise in the U15 girls championship game at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup on Sunday.

The Thorns advance to the USYS National Presidents Cup in Greensboro, N.C., July 7-10.

Stosich and Natalie Thompson each scored in regulation for the Thorns, and the game was tied after regulation, and after two 15-minute overtimes.

In the shootout, Lilliana Brinkmeier made three saves for the Thorns.

The Timbers North FC 2009 boys red, playing in the U13 boys championship game, lost 2-0 to Anaheim (Calif.) Futbol Club. The game was a scoreless tie at halftime.
