The Kroc Center has awarded $11,000 in scholarships to 11 graduating seniors from Idaho's five northern counties.

The Dr. Riggs Leadership Scholarship was created in 2013 by the Salvation Army Kroc Center executive staff and advisory board to honor Dr. Jack T. Riggs for a lifetime of leadership excellence. The scholarship acknowledges and rewards high school seniors for exhibiting leadership traits and capabilities.

The Salvation Army Advisory Board collected and reviewed nearly 100 applications in April and selected the following winning recipients:

Brenner Drake: North Idaho STEM Charter Academy

Mya Gacksetter: Post Falls High

Miles Butler: Post Falls High

Myah Rietze: Coeur d'Alene High

Sophia Allan: Coeur d'Alene High

Sophia Inge: Coeur d'Alene High

Sophia Goodson: Coeur d'Alene High

Taylor Peterson: Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy

Sierra Holt: Lake City High

Cayden Stone: Lake City High

Raney Hazan: Forrest M. Bird Charter School

“We are proud to have awarded $11,000 to local high school seniors this year throughout Kootenai County,” Kroc Center director Kip Sharbono said. "These 11 scholarships truly honor Dr. Riggs by encouraging leadership development in each of these students as they pursue education in the technical, trade and academic program of their choice.”

Students graduating from a high school in any of Idaho’s five northern counties are welcome to apply for the scholarship from February to March of each year. Criteria for the award include plans to further formal education and examples of leadership at school, work, in the community or within the home.
