Schedule concealed carry license appointments online

COEUR d’ALENE — Beginning Aug. 1, Kootenai County residents can get appointments for concealed weapons licenses and fingerprint services through the QLess app.

Idaho residents aged 18 and older don’t need a license in order to carry a lawfully-possessed firearm. But those who obtain an enhanced license can carry concealed in the many states that recognize licenses issued in Idaho.

Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Broesch said going through the licensing process helps gun owners learn how to be safe when handling firearms.

“Idaho law has recognized that people have an innate right to carry concealed weapons,” Broesch said. “There’s also knowledge on when you should not just carry, but when you should present that weapon. It’s not always clear to people.”

To obtain a standard license, residents must complete an application and provide a driver’s license with a current address.

They must also submit proof of firearms training, such as a hunter’s safety course or a training certificate from the Idaho Sheriff’s Association’s online handgun safety training course.

Idahoans must have six consecutive months of residency to obtain an enhanced license.

Applicants must provide a valid driver’s license, as well as a copy of the Idaho Enhanced Concealed Weapons Training Form that has been completed and signed by both a valid firearms and legal instructor.

Concealed weapons license processing times are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fingerprint service appointment times are Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
