Olin Perry Davis, 83

Olin Perry Davis passed away July 16, 2022, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He had suffered from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis for over the last three years. His loving wife, Betty, of 28 years was by his side. Olin was the son of Reverend Roy Davis and Effie Lena Davis born in Portales, N.M., Sept. 10, 1938.

He had an older brother, Roy Davis Jr. and a younger sister, Carol Lee Davis. After his parents divorce, Olin moved to Midland, Texas, graduating from Midland High School in 1957. In school, he was very popular and voted "Best All Around Boy." He loved pole-vaulting, swimming, diving and his trumpet in band. He had several scholarships for his sports at Baylor University and East Texas State University.

He married and had two children, Bobby in l962 and Sherry in 1963. Sherry was born with Cystic Fibrosis and passed at age 19. Olin's interest in flying finally paid off when he was hired by Continental Airlines in 1962. He was a kind "southern gentleman" with a charming smile and great work ethic. The CEO of Continental chose him as one of his special employees for DPS, Director of Passenger Services, who flew aboard the airplane assisting passengers and was in-flight director for military air contracts to Vietnam. He was stationed all around from Dallas, Texas; El Paso, Texas; Louisiana; California and Chicago, becoming Area Sales Manager. He kept in close contact with so many of his co-workers to the day of his death. He will be remembered by all, for his constant smile.

He remarried and left Continental after 15 years to pursue other jobs of interest. Those were: Ken­Tex Petroleum; Bell Helicopter; Braniff Intl. Airlines; Davis Agency Travel; Jet America, GSW Travel, Inc. All of these went out of business one by one. He opened his own yogurt and ice cream shoppe in Sparks, Nev., the shopping center went out of business. He then worked for a time at Eagle Valley Construction as a heavy equipment operator in Reno.

One of his friends asked him to manage the Hale Mahina Beach Resort in Maui in 1991. It was there that he met his soul mate, Betty Hamlet Wise, during a family reunion at Christmas. They married in Jamaica in 1994. Both had case of "wanderlust" and traveled the world together. They settled down in Maui in 1995 working as Resident Managers for the International Colony Club for 3 1/2 years. After being on duty 24/7, they decided to work for a new golf course, The Dunes of Maui Lani. Betty as the food and beverage cart, and Olin as a course marshall. In 2000, they moved home to Coeur d'Alene to help take care of Betty's mother who had just turned 90. Olin loved Coeur d'Alene and enjoyed his job as a substitute school bus driver. They continued traveling by road and visited all 50 states.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Betty Davis of Coeur d'Alene; son Robert Davis (Amanda); six grandchildren in Farmington, Wash.; three stepsons, Todd Wise (Kelly), Scott Wise and Robert Wise (Cynthia); and four step grandchildren all of Portland, Ore. Also, a sister-in-law, Jackie Davis of Houston, Texas; and a niece, Shelby White of Austin, Texas; plus sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Jim Runge of Coeur d'Alene; and adopted daughter, Cindy Shearer of Coeur d'Alene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Effie Lena Davis; brother Roy Davis; sister Carol Lee White and niece Stacy White. Olin had a great faith in his Lord from a young age and was so excited to see Jesus, and his family and friends in Heaven.
