CDA PD: Doing a tough job well

Reading the front-page article, “Police Openings Take Toll” sent my memories into high gear.

Having been a police officer in both the big city and a smaller city it often occurs to me in these last few years that there is no way I could do that job in this day and age with all the anti-police insanity and the legal jeopardy that each officer puts him/herself into with each action he/she takes. It wasn’t always that way.

But reading the “Police Openings” article and hearing of the shortage of police officers here (and most everywhere) carried me back to my younger days and reminded me that being a police officer is really a most rewarding way to serve your community and lead a productive life as one of the “good guys.” I have such amazing memories from the job and to this day I always slow down when I see one of Coeur d’Alene’s finest with a car stop, just to make sure they don’t need assistance. It stays in your blood. And yes, I do miss the job.

We’ve lived in many places all over the west and I have to say, Coeur d’Alene’s police department really DOES do an exemplary job of keeping this city in tip top shape. They always look and act squared away and that starts with good leadership. So thanks to Chief White and his Department. You guys and gals do a great job!

I’d submit an application but I have a little problem…I’ll be 78 in January.
