North Idaho College will host its second Accessibility Camp Coeur d’Alene Aug. 3 and 4 on NIC’s main campus.

The event is open to the public.

The symposium will feature presentations by a number of local, regional and international speakers on specialized and technical tracks in accessibility, as well as stories of passion in accessibility.

Event topics will include preparing youth for higher education, accessibility in the workplace, accessible international events and big-wave surfing.

Speakers will include representatives from the Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Washington State Department of Services for the Blind and the British Assistive Technology Association, Buck Knives, Project SEARCH, Miss Wheelchair USA, the Global Accessibility Awareness Day Foundation, Idaho State University, American University of Beirut and NIC.

"Accessibility Camp Coeur d'Alene brings people from around the world together to help get NIC staff, faculty and students the resources they need to start building their digital resources to be as universally designed as possible,” said NIC IT accessibility coordinator Jeremy Seda, who organizes the event. "This year, we are putting a little spin on the event with the passion track. It is something that I have seen as a missing link with accessibility in higher education.”

The symposium will also feature breakfast, lunch, snacks and after-hours networking events for registered participants.

Registration for the two-day symposium is open to the public. Admission is $50. Visit www.nic.edu/a11ycamp to register. Registration closes July 29.

For information, accommodation requests or questions about physical access during the event, email Seda at Jeremy.Seda@nic.edu or call 208-929-4030.
