Deborah “Debbie” Gail Sheaffer, 58

| July 13, 2022 1:00 AM

Deborah “Debbie” Gail Sheaffer passed away July 5, 2022, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born Oct. 5, 1963, to Virginia Gail (Tucker) Berreth and Charles Leroy Sheaffer. Debbie was born in Oklahoma, but moved to Coeur d’Alene as a young girl.

In June, 1980, a small plane crashed near Squaw Bay. Debbie was on board and the sole survivor. She fought for her life tenaciously: She was tough. While that day changed the course of her life and took the use of her legs, it did not take her life, nor was it allowed to define it. She was a fierce advocate for herself.

Debbie loved the outdoors, her gardens at her house, a view of the water and a sunny day. Above all, Debbie valued her independence. She chose the direction of her life and would not have had it any other way.

Debbie fought more than most are capable of, but truly never gave up. She is with her mother and father, who preceded her in death. Survivors include her stepfather, Larry Berreth, and her sisters, Barbara Earling and Shar Sheaffer. Donations can be made in her name to the Disability Action Center NW (dacnw.org).

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Debbie’s online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
