ELECTRIC VEHICLES: Should not be dismissed

I’m surprised that self-proclaimed patriots such as Brent Regan, Ralph Barker and Ray Brewer have such low views of America and American innovation as espoused in their letters. Do they think that the current highway system with gas stations at every exit sprung fully formed off the assembly line with the first Model T’s? I love having my car fully charged every morning and never needing to wait in line for $5+ gas that leaves my hands smelly. It’s barely nudged my electric bill higher to charge my car at my house each night, and my extremely safe and recyclable car is fast and quiet and fits my family of six without blowing toxic exhaust into my children’s faces. Think bigger, gentlemen!

None of the conveniences we enjoy today (electricity, sewers, internet, phones, airports, hospitals, etc.) came together overnight. It takes ignorance of history and a pessimistic view of the free market and American innovation to believe that because there may not be adequate infrastructure today for a complete and instant shift to electric vehicles that their future should be dismissed or slowed.
