James Allen Davis, 89

| July 2, 2022 1:00 AM

James Allen Davis was born on Jan. 17, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert and Myrtle (Johnson) Davis. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1951.

In 1952, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He served as a dental technician, based in San Diego, Calif., and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Remaining in San Diego, Jim attended college at San Diego State University. Subsequently completing his bachelor of science degree at the University of California, Berkley and then his doctoral study, obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (fun fact, as the senior class president), from the University of California, San Francisco.

Jim met the woman he loved, Jean, on a blind date while serving in the Navy and they were married on April 2, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage and two children.

Jim loves the Lord Jesus and anchored his life on Him, saved by His grace through faith. He cared for his patients as a dentist for 41 years in Davis, Calif., and served in Rotary and on the boards of several organizations, to support the care of others throughout his professional career (and beyond).

Retiring in 2002 he relocated with his wife to enjoy beautiful Post Falls, Idaho. Throughout his life, Jim was active in the life of the church in the communities where he lived, most recently a member of Maple Street Community Church in Hayden, Idaho. He loved music and as a part of his life’s worship, sang with his wonderful bass voice in church choirs as well as community chorus groups. He also enjoyed being in nature, fishing, boating, working in the yard, and especially time spent with his family. Jim was known for his kindness, servant heart and fun sense of humor.

Jim died peacefully on May 8, 2022, at the age of 89 years and will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Jean; son Bill Davis; daughter Barbara (and Nate) Thoreson; five grandchildren, Luke (and Sierra) Thoreson (and great-granddaughter Amira), Aimee Davis, Kiana Thoreson, Caitlin Davis, and Sara Thoreson; nieces, nephews, family and friends, and through the sharing of memories, the generations of family to come. We are grateful to the Lord for blessing us through his life!

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Myrtle; three brothers, Robert, Richard and Charles Davis, and sister Barbara Haley.
