PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Rough second quarter costs Lakeland at Moscow

| January 28, 2022 1:15 AM

MOSCOW — For three of quarters, Lakeland did exactly what it was hoping to do.

But that second quarter, well, that one didn’t go the Hawks' way.

Moscow outscored the Hawks 20-2 in the second quarter of a 45-25 Inland Empire League game at Bear Den on Thursday night.

“Moscow just was more disciplined tonight,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “They blocked out and played great defense. Moscow played really well and we did not.”

Addie Kiefer scored 13 points for Lakeland (7-7, 2-5 IEL), which travels to Sandpoint on Saturday.

Angela Lassen scored 19 points for Moscow (5-13, 1-5), which faces Sandpoint twice to conclude the regular season, hosting the Bulldogs on Tuesday and traveling to Sandpoint on Feb. 4.

“Not a great start; we have to start with more aggression,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “But the kids really amped up the pressure, and left it all out there for us.”

Senior wing Madi Carr scored a game-high 18 points for West Valley (12-2).

Lake City (6-2 Inland Empire League) plays host to Post Falls (5-3 IEL) on Tuesday to wrap up the regular season. Lake City won by 11 earlier in the season; Post Falls would have to match or better that result to have a chance to overtake the Timberwolves for the No. 2 seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament. Otherwise, Lake City would host the Trojans next Friday in the first round at regionals.
