COUNTY: Form of government issue

| January 28, 2022 1:00 AM

My concern is with the unaccountability of an appointed or “hired” manager.

For two years now, our entire country has lived under the effects of one unelected man’s dictates. Dr. Fauci says “wear masks,” we all have to wear masks. Dr Fauci says “lock down the country” and it happens. Dr. Fauci says everyone must be jabbed, twice, and millions take an experimental shot. I don’t fully understand how this happened, but it did!

Now I hear that the commission wants to grow itself and “appoint” a manager that will have unprecedented authorities within Kootenai County, while being answerable to no one.

Who is going to “design” this new position? What will his/her authority be?

Will he be able to override the decisions of elected officials, ie the clerk, the treasurer or sheriff?

Will she have a veto over advisory boards and committee appointments?

Will he become the de facto county budget officer?

Will she have authority over hiring, firing and supervising county employees?

I don’t know the answer to any of these questions. I suspect that two of the three commissioners have answers they are unwilling to share. If the answer to even one of these is yes I ask, “How can you consider doing this to the people of this county!? I say no to your plans. Just leave us be.”
