Harrison man dies after crash
A Harrison man died after a crash on Highway 97 this week, according to Idaho State Police.
ISP responded Monday afternoon to a report of a crash near milepost 75. A vehicle reportedly slid and went over a steep embankment.
Investigators said it appeared the crash occurred Sunday night.
Law enforcement recovered the body of the deceased driver, downhill from the crash site. Snow and difficult terrain reportedly made it challenging to reach him.
He was a Harrison resident in his 70s, according to ISP. He has not been publicly identified.
The man reportedly appeared to have exited the vehicle, then slipped farther down the steep embankment, where he died.
ISP Sgt. Allen Ashby said it was not immediately clear what caused the man’s death.
The conditions of the event, including damage to the vehicle, did not appear consistent with a fatality crash.
The medical examiner’s office will determine if the man died due to injuries sustained in the crash, a medical event, exposure or some other cause.
Ashby reminded drivers to adjust for road conditions. It’s especially important in winter weather.
“In certain areas, especially on mountain roads, a simple slide out can become a life-threatening event quickly,” he said.
