Idaho names Lose defensive line coach
MOSCOW — Idaho football coach Jason Eck has announced the hire of David Lose as defensive line coach.
Lose (pronounced LOW-say) comes to Idaho from Oregon State where he spent four seasons as a defensive quality control analyst where he worked for head coach Jonathan Smith, a former Vandal assistant coach.
"We want to build the program from the line of scrimmage first so getting Coach Lose at the defensive line was a very critical hire," Eck said. "We are excited for him as a coach and for his background recruiting the West Coast and experience in the Pacific Northwest. He comes highly recommended by coach Jonathan Smith who I trust immensely."
Lose spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons as the defensive line coach at Portland State.
Before Portland State, he coached six seasons as a defensive assistant at Washington State. He coached for two seasons at Saint Paul's College as the defensive line coach in 2009 and 2010 and coached at his alma mater, Luther Burbank High in Sacramento from 2006-08.
He played at Oregon State in the early 2000s, starting in 18 games. He was part of OSU's co-Pac-12 title Fiesta Bowl championship team and was a key blocker for Beaver running back greats Ken Simonton and Steven Jackson, and record-setting and NFL veteran quarterback Derek Anderson.
Lose spent five seasons in Arena Football League-2.
WSU men's basketball game at OSU also postponed.
Washington State's men's basketball game at Oregon State on Saturday has also been postponed, due to COVID-19 protocols within the Cougs' program.
WSU's game at Oregon on Thursday night was postponed earlier in the week for the same reason.
Both games will be rescheduled with the teams and the Pac-12 Conference working to find mutually agreeable dates to play the contests. Finalized dates will be announced later.
The Cougs are next scheduled to be back in action Wednesday, Jan. 26 when they host Utah at Beasley Coliseum at 7 p.m.
