Love wins over football

| January 19, 2022 1:00 AM

The last time the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers faced off in a postseason playoff game in 1994, Steve and Robin Anthony were newlyweds. On Sunday the couple were in the stands in Arlington, Texas, for the long awaited rematch in the wildcard game ... Steve decked out in Niners red and Robin making a lone star fashion statement in blue and white.

Their fan wagons had beginnings in childhood for each. Robin’s memories of watching the Cowboys with her dad when she was a young girl are fond ones. Steve became a San Francisco fan in elementary school.

Steve attends a San Francisco regular season home game each year. Robin makes the trek to the Big D every other year to cheer on her Cowboys. Throughout the regular season each year, game day is a spent in front of the TV but with no shortage of sporting the attire and festivities of an indoor tailgate party.

Robin says she and Steve cheer for the other’s team unless they’re playing each other, then it’s every fan for themselves.

“We’re a divided football family,” said Steve, “but united in everything else!”

San Francisco prevailed on Sunday, eliminating Dallas, so this coming weekend when they meet the Green bay Packers, Robin won’t be wearing cheese on her head out of spite, she’ll be rooting for her hubs’ team to move closer to earning a spot in the Super Bowl on Feb. 13. It might be a little too much to ask for her to put away her Cowboy regalia and sport red and gold, though.
