PREP WRESTLING: Coeur d'Alene has five in semis at Rocky Mountain Classic
MISSOULA, Mont. — Christian Kelly (103 pounds), Porter Craig (145), Demarco Piazza (152), Rylan Rogers (205) and Jaxson Washington (285) of Coeur d’Alene reached the semifinals of the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic on Friday at Sentinel High.
Five other Vikings are still alive in the consolation bracket, including Alyssa Randles (126), who is competing in the boys tournament.
“They all wrestled real solid,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “The guys that are in the semis, they dominated their two matches; all of them have a good chance of making the finals.”
Coeur d’Alene is in fourth place after the first day with 109 points. Flathead of Kalispell, Mont., last month’s Tri-State champion, leads with 176.5 points, followed by University of Spokane at 126.5 and Butte (Mont.) with 125.
Blaine Leonard (126) advanced to the semfinals for Lake City, which has seven remaining in the consolation bracket.
“Blaine’s been making adjustments as the season goes on,” said Lake City coach Corey Owen, whose team was scheduled to compete Thursday at Frenchtown before a COVID outbreak with the host school forced the postponement of the dual. “He’s been wrestling a little laxed, but he didn’t let up today. When he’s on, he’s as good as anyone. He looked really good today.”
Lake City is 15th out of 26 teams with 54 points.
