POLICE: A call for support

| January 14, 2022 1:00 AM

Last Sunday (Jan. 9) a shooting incident took place in the parking lot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hayden around 1:15 p.m. Members of both Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department and Coeur d’Alene Police Department responded. I believe there were around 250 to 300 church members inside our building having worship services.

The officers responded in a VERY timely manner, securing our building, and getting all of our members (men, women and children) out of harm’s way and into a secured area away from doors and windows. They also made sure that no one was allowed in or out during the incident to maintain safety.

I commend the quick and professional way these officers took charge and made everyone feel safe and secure. I find it interesting that during the uncertain times in which we live, that some in our country are calling for defunding the police and insulting and even murdering the very officers who have sworn an oath to protect the public.

I for one am grateful for the law enforcement in our area and feel that we should defend, not defund the police.
