COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Kempton's career night paces Zags

Melody Kempton scored a career-high 25 points and Yvonne Ejim recorded her first double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Bulldogs to a 76-65 win over Portland in the West Coast Conference opener for both on Thursday at The Chiles Center.

It is the first time since Dec. 2, 2017 that the Zags have had two players scored over 20 points in a game.

Kempton, the Post Falls High star, also had five rebounds, one block and a steal for Gonzaga (10-3), which won its sixth straight conference opener.

Alex Fowler had 17 points and five rebounds for Portland (10-3).

Montana 68, Eastern Washington 50: At Missoula, Mont., Jaydia Martin had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (2-9, 0-2 Big Sky) in a loss to the Grizzlies (10-4, 3-2) at Dahlberg Arena.

Jacinta Buckley scored 15 points for Eastern Washington, which shot 19 of 63 in the game.

Carmen Gfeller scored 15 points for Montana.
