OPINIONS: Now here’s mine

Commendable that The Press will select varying viewpoints to publish. But when those views in part make absolutely no sense perhaps it is best to question the mentality of the letter writer or the editor who decides to publish.

Re: Shane Smith’s letter presenting points on the state of our country.

If border crossing policy hasn’t changed from the precious administration then why is there such turmoil with dramatic surge in unauthorized U.S. southern border crossings. There were 180,000 just last month, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection — a two-decade high and a 76% increase since February. Plus increased human trafficking and illegal drugs.

Trump had brokered a withdrawal deal in Afghanistan. Not part of the deal was abandoning billions of dollars in equipment, as well as hundreds of our citizens and allies.

And yes Shane I am against de-funding the police in favor of more community support. Look at the results. Major blue city mayors are now backtracking those decisions for very obvious reasons.

Increase government spending on social welfare programs and higher taxes. How much is enough? These mere “trillions” thrown into the economy has resulted in huge inflation which harms the poor disproportionately. The top 5% of wage earners pay 60% of the taxes.

I could go on but space limits only allow me to pick a few “low hanging fruit.”

I do wonder what Shane’s definition of “object reality” is.
