ELECTIONEERING: Thanks to Eubanks
This letter is to Mr. Dave Eubanks. Thank you for pursuing this electioneering complaint against the illegal activity at a polling place in Hayden. Let me encourage you to continue in your pursuit for justice.
But let me assure you that you will have an uphill battle with our prosecuting attorney Barry McHugh. Mr. McHugh is well-known for dragging his feet unless he sees that a prosecution is 1,000% winnable. (He also allows the most ridiculous plea bargains with reduced charges and sentences just so he can keep his conviction rate up.) It’s been almost two months and the prosecuting attorney “needs more information.” Come on McHugh, get off your hands and do your job.
Additionally, it is beyond my comprehension that county clerk Jim Brannon has not conducted an independent investigation and identified the poll worker and if he hasn’t, he should resign his post for incompetence.
Mr. Eubanks, please continue to pursue this issue and use the Coeur d’Alene Press to document what is going on with the investigation. The Press will be your only avenue of accountability as I’m sure the other entities will delay and make excuses.
What I’ve noticed in the past is that the prosecuting attorney will delay, delay, delay and then justify or make excuses that a prosecution is no longer timely and/or justified.
