Dennis and Marjorie Johnson

65th Anniversary

Dennis and Marjorie Johnson celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage on Dec. 28, 2021.

Dennis met Marge at a barn dance back in 1954 while Marge was still in high school. He joined the U.S. Army in 1956. While on a two-week furlough, he went to Port Huron, Mich., and married Marge.

While serving in the Army, they moved to Washington near Poulsbo and then transferred to Bainbridge Island. First daughter Shelene was born at Bremerton Navel hospital in 1958. Upon completing his military career, they moved to North Dakota, second daughter Shanda was born in Grand Forks, N.D., in 1959. They moved again to Silver Bay, Minn., and then to Two Harbor's, Minn., where son Devin was born in 1961.

They would soon follow Marge's family West to Washington in 1964. They settled in Marysville, Wash., during this time Marge graduated from cosmetology school at Everett Community College. They spent the next eight years on a small farm in Arlington, Wash.

In 1974, Dennis joined GTE as a fleet supervisor and the family once again moved, this time to Hayden. Marge also worked a short time for GTE before returning to cosmetology. They also added raising Norwegian Fjord horses at their farm in 1980 and Springhill Fjords was born.

Dennis retired in 1993 after 19 years with GTE. In 1985, Marge built her own business in Coeur d'Alene, it was called Centre Beauty Supply. Both Shelene and Shanda would work with their mom until the business closed in 2013. They had participated in many parades with the horses wearing authentic Norwegian clothing and have been active with the Son's of Norway.

Dennis and Marge's home has been and still is where family gathers. Whether it is a holiday, bonfire or sledding party. All three children, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren love, respect and look up to Dennis and Marge as role models. We all feel lucky to have them and wish them many more anniversaries.
