Laney Smith, a freshman from Post Falls had 12 points and sophomore Layla Beam 10 points for NIC (12-9, 7-6 NWAC), which outscored Yakima Valley 23-12 in the fourth quarter.

“Kaylee created that spark that we needed in the second half,” NIC coach Korina Baker said. “Laney had a nice night and Layla played really consistently as well. Defensively, we played pretty good, but didn’t come out with much energy after the long drive. We really got things going in the second half, but we need to play with a little more energy the next time we get off the bus.”
