GOP: Anti-neighbor, now?

| February 25, 2022 1:00 AM

A recent letter published here expressed annoyance that The Press would highlight a neighborliness initiative on its front page rather than the Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Dinner.

I found the letter deeply disappointing.

Aren’t self-sufficient, neighborly communities the bedrock of Republican principles? The theory goes (or so I’ve been told by Republicans all my life) that as we strengthen individuals, families and neighborhoods, we become less dependent on government. A truly good aim!

And yet, the author was upset that the newsprint spotlight had shifted away from political speeches and onto strengthening neighborhoods?

The Republican Party group think in North Idaho has become very warped indeed.
