FREEDOM: Expression at the core
“You’re entitled to your opinion!” “It’s a free country!”
How many of us grew up with these phrases always at the ready when someone disagreed with us?
I think the editorial in Wednesday’s Press outlines the single most healthy decision The Press has ever made. This signals an understanding of the very essence of what it means to be a free press, a free people and a free country.
I don’t want or need your help evaluating an opinion originating from a “screwball universe.” (Your term, not mine.) That’s my job. After examining all the facts and using logic, the public needs to once again be entrusted with the responsibility and privilege of reasoned thought. We used to be.
This age of censoring on every platform has got to stop. It makes us lemmings. We allow unelected “experts” to think FOR us. We’re told to blindly accept what they say as the gospel truth. Surely we recognize that experts can disagree, even in science. I have a right to hear more than one side.
Like it or not, supreme power lies in those who get to decide what is fact or right. There lies the profound juggernaut and why censorship is so dangerous. How many times lately have the so-called “fact checkers” ultimately been proven wrong? And how many “experts” are politically supported and motivated?
A person’s right to be heard and challenged in a public forum is what helps make this country free. Thank you Coeur d’Alene Press!
