SCHOOLS: Should’ve seen it coming

| February 20, 2022 1:00 AM

I read the article “Post Falls Stretching School Dollars” where Superintendent Dena Naccarato was addressing the Chamber of Commerce to explain that the explosion of growth has, for the Post Falls School District, meant “a dire need for new schools” and now wonders how to pay for them. Which is interesting because not too long ago the m-ayor of Post Falls was quoted in this paper as saying all this city growth was planned for 10 years ago.

So, I’m left wondering was it the city or the school district long range planning that was so insufficient they did not see the probability of more students, which would require more buildings and services? Then again, insufficient planning would explain why no one saw the need to create a special taxing district for all the new homes to pay for the “explosion.”

Or was it naivete? Either way, no one will be surprised to see another levy on the ballot for Post Falls schools.
