PROTEST: Checking facts

In response to Pattie Strub’s “Fact Check opinions” letter on Feb. 11, she should check her facts.
I don’t know where she gets her news, but the truth is that President Trump authorized up to 20,000 National Guard troops to be available due to concerns about the size of the crowd anticipated on Jan. 6, 2021, in Washington, D.C.
Nancy Pelosi (responsible for security on Capitol Hill) and the Mayor of Washington, D.C. (responsible for the District’s security) needed to approve any deployment. Neither chose to do so. As a result, Capitol Hill was unprotected and the protests got out of hand.
