PREP ROUNDUP: Martin clinches win for Trojans against Vikings
WRESTLING
COEUR d’ALENE — As Post Falls coach Pete Reardon describes, Seth Martin is going to give himself a chance to win every night with his preparation.
So in front of a packed Elmer Jordan Court, Martin did exactly that, winning by a 4-2 decision at 138 pounds — the final bout of the night — to clinch a 39-38 dual win over the host Coeur d’Alene Vikings.
“Seth is just a very special kid,” Reardon said. “He’s an extra hard worker and fast learner. Things fell into place for him tonight and I’m really proud of him. He’s going to give himself a chance to win each time he takes the mat.”
Post Falls had pins from Trevor Miller (220 pounds), Ethan Wilson (106), Zack Campbell (113), Tyson Barnhart (120) and Gentry Smith (182).
“Our kids just fought until the end,” Reardon said. “We talk about being tough and not being overwhelmed. It was awesome to see the kids make gains and fight hard.”
Porter Craig (145), Sebastian Prangley (160), Rylan Rogers (195), Jaxson Washington (285) and Dax Larsen (132) had pins for Coeur d’Alene.
“We got up on them and they kept their composure and came back, which we knew they’d do,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Someone stays off their back here and there, and it’s a different outcome. We’re disappointed, but not upset. Our kids are doing the right things at the right time. They’re going to be fine by district tournament time.”
Both teams are off until the 5A Region 1 tournament on Feb. 19 at Lake City High.
