MESS: The Press and politics

| February 9, 2022 1:00 AM

Our local government is a mess.

The Coeur d’Alene City Council voted to accept federal ARPA dollars with the intent of not complying with the terms for the government money.

The city attorney advised he was not aware of the government recovering the money if less than $10 million. Council person Woods made a motion to take the money but refuse the conditions. In contract law that is not likely.

English said he heard nothing to change his mind, so he is OK with the conditions that include following UN Agenda 2030, a path to socialism.

The fact that a large crowd turned out strongly opposed to the acceptance made no impression on the council. Only Gookin opposed. The Press quoted the lone proponent who resented the crowd’s breach of decorum. The breach was applauding the speakers to that point in the meeting. The mayor attempted to end testimony, but it continued for another 45 minutes.

In Hayden City Council, a proposal to put a 144-unit apartment development in a community area zoned for single family dwellings drew criticism from the Coeur d’Alene Press for a description “gross.” The Wizard of Oz-like Cowardly Lion mayor condemned the comment in the “newspaper” but made no comment at the time. The Coeur d’Alene Press ran this story as a front-page headline on Sunday from an event that took place on Tuesday evening. I can see missing Wednesday, but nothing on Thursday, Friday or Saturday?
