GROSS: Crossing the line

The comments made by Council Member White during the meeting were very direct and specific.

A mayor and members of the City Council represent all citizens. When a comment is made which indicates that a group were disparaged incorrectly, then it is my responsibility to address the comment, particularly if questions are proposed by the newspaper or other public media.

In this particular case, there was no mention of a numerical number, there was simply a statement.

I look forward to serving with Council Member White. As mayor, I need to allow each Council Member the opportunity to make comments when appropriate. I’m sure that in the future, each of us will work hard to ensure that our comments are on the record and heard by all.
