POEM: The School District Who Stole Christmas (Break)
Every student in Coeur d’Alene liked Christmas a lot.
But the decision-makers at the District, apparently did not.
Why must C-D-A schools go through the twenty-third?
Ask any area parent–they think it’s absurd!
No time to sing carols or even play a game.
But, good news! They have January — incredibly lame!
Once the magic is over; the decor back in its box.
Once the tinsel’s packed up, with the holiday socks.
Only then will our students be home for a while.
The District proclaimed, with a Grinch-worthy smile.
No time for the families who have come from afar.
Traveling by plane or on slick roads by car.
No time to sleep in or watch a holiday show.
No time to make fudge or roll gingerbread dough.
But there ARE prolonged school days for our kids to get sick —
Just one day before we anticipate St. Nick.
Who cares if we end school mid-week — mix it up!
Don’t pat our heads; send us to bed with our cups.
Thanksgiving Week has always been short.
Don’t prolong it and then tell Christmas … abort!
There are many school districts ending mid-week.
Please check out their schedules; go on, take a peek.
Because we really can’t have one more year of this mess.
When our students are robbed of their longed-for Christ-mas (Break).
