PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City, Coeur d'Alene notch dual wins in opener

| December 8, 2022 1:10 AM

• WRESTLING

COEUR d’ALENE — As Lake City coach Corey Owen described, it was a good start.

With dual wins over East Valley and Bonners Ferry on Wednesday at Coeur d’Alene High, the Timberwolves could be onto something with a fairly new lineup.

“The core group of our guys that are juniors and seniors all wrestled tough tonight and put us in a position to win those duals,” Owen said. “As a team, I thought all of our kids wrestled hard tonight. I was a little up in the air about how it was going to go with some new freshmen at 120 and 170, and a lot of other guys that hadn’t been in a varsity uniform, but those guys scrapped tonight. Even in those matches we lost, the kids fought, and that’s all you can ask for.”

Lake City hosts Post Falls tonight.

Coeur d’Alene also won twice, beating East Valley 58-27 and Bonners Ferry 68-16.

“I was really happy that we were aggressive and the kids were coming out and looking to score points,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “The kids are buying into what we need to do and it was a good start definitely. We’ll get more competitive as we get kids in the right weight class, but happy with how we started tonight for sure.”

Coeur d’Alene competes in the Inland Empire Classic on Friday and Saturday at Central Valley High in Spokane Valley.
