Warren Baldwin, 99

| December 7, 2022 1:00 AM

Warren B. Baldwin, “Papa”, 99, passed away Nov. 29, 2022, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Warren was born to Karl and Marguerite Baldwin on July 11, 1923, in Berkeley, Calif.

Warren was a World War II veteran. At 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was deployed to Biak Island, New Guinea, and later Yokohama, Japan, until his discharge in 1946. Upon his return to California, he met his future wife, JoAnne Smart, at the College of the Pacific in Stockton. They had two sons, James and Brad.

Warren worked as a sales engineer for the Pfaudler Company, in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a 10-year stint in Lake Oswego, Ore. Warren was a skilled woodworker and built most of the furniture in the family home. He helped the boys with their hobbies and sports, coaching and racing cars. He rebuilt a bee-infested J-3 Piper Cub that he loved to fly.

Warren built JoAnne a new home that they lived in until JoAnne’s passing in 1986. Warren made a move to Idaho in 1995. He enjoyed his Hayden Lake home and living next door to his son Brad’s family for many years. He coached his grandchildren’s softball teams. He built two different boat docks in Hayden and 24 bunk beds for the Schweitzer Chapel dormitory in Sandpoint.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he loved his family so well. He was a creative problem solver, always sharing his great sense of humor.

His surviving family includes son James Baldwin; granddaughters Aubrey and Paige; and son Brad Baldwin (Janice); and grandchildren JoAnne, Jenica and Brett.

Upon Warren’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Warren may be made to the Schneidmiller Hospice House, (hospiceofnorthidaho.org).
