PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Post Falls gets rolling on the right path in fourth quarter

| December 2, 2022 1:16 AM

MERIDIAN — After a longer-than-expected day on the bus, the Post Falls Trojans made the key plays in the fourth quarter to beat the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies 51-46 on Thursday night in nonleague play.

Senior Capri Sims, a Central Washington commit, had 17 points and “over 10 rebounds,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said.

Sims and junior Kinlee McLean each hit two big buckets in the fourth quarter for the Trojans (4-0), who trailed by one point after three quarters.

Hoping to leave for southern Idaho on Wednesday afternoon, Post Falls didn’t get out of town until Thursday morning. Then, an accident on Interstate 84 forced the team bus to detour through Caldwell. The Trojans arrived at Rocky Mountain less than an hour before tipoff.

“And we played like it,” Hall said. “But the kids came through, it took them three quarters to figure it out, and we snuck away with a win.”

McLean finished with 12 points for Post Falls.

The Trojans focused their defense on Rocky senior Brielle Magnuson, who transferred from Post Falls prior to last season. Magnuson finished with six points. Junior Cianna Legaspi of Rocky (2-2), picked to finish fifth in the 13-team 5A Southern Idaho Conference, led all scorers with 18 points.

“She just put her head down and drove the line, and we couldn’t stop her,” Hall said of the 5-foot-10 Legaspi.
