Spokane selected to host three years of USA Wrestling women's national championships

SPOKANE — USA Wrestling will bring the women’s national championships to Spokane at The Podium in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

This event has never been held in the Pacific Northwest and will draw 1,200 of the best female wrestlers in the country, along with 3,000 visiting spectators.

The national championships span eight age divisions (7-23 years old), in freestyle wrestling. The competition also serves as the USA World Team Trials for women’s freestyle wrestling in four of those age groups.

The USA Wrestling women’s national championships in Spokane are scheduled for April 14-16, 2023; April 12-14, 2024; and April 11-13, 2025.

Montana State volleyball coach Jones not returning

BOZEMAN, Mont. — After a five-year plus run as the head coach of Montana State volleyball, Daniel Jones will not return to the program, MSU athletic director Leon Costello announced Thursday.

Jones' contract will expire on Jan. 30.

As head coach, Jones' record was 64-73 overall (14-16 this season) and 42-40 in Big Sky Conference play. Jones also served as an assistant for two seasons under former Bobcat coach JJ Riley.

Nellie Reese, a freshman from Lake City High, had 183 assists in 33 sets for the Bobcats this past season.

MSU said it will launch a national search for its 12th head volleyball coach immediately.
