Herbert "Herb" Singer, 87

Herbert "Herb" Singer, 87, of Post Falls passed away peacefully on Aug. 2, 2022, at Living Springs Assisted Living in Post Falls after battling Parkinson's Disease for eight years. His wife, Dolores, and two grandsons, Daniel and Justin, were by his side. Herb, one of 16 children, was born on Oct. 9, 1934, in Stanton, N.D. The Singer family moved to Rathdrum in 1945 and settled on the Singer Ranch just east of Rathdrum. Herb graduated from Rathdrum High School in 1954. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum "Trentwood" for 36 years and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor in the fall of 1984. Herb married the love of his life, Dolores Schultz on Aug. 21, 1953. They were married for 69 years this month. They had two boys, Robert "Bob" Singer (Chris) of Spokane and Daniel "Dan" (Vicki) of Post Falls.

Herb coached baseball for his two boys along with many other boys in Rathdrum. Herb was a member of the Rathdrum Lions Club for over 50 years, where he enjoyed trap shooting and was involved in many projects in the Rathdrum area. Herb was an avid elk hunter over the years and hunted for the last 10 years with hs son Dan, until he was 76 years old. Herb was also an avid fisherman, fishing in the K&K Derby on Pend Oreille for years and the Big One derby on Lake Coeur d' Alene. He took his family and friends to Ilwaco, Wash., fishing for Salmon for several years. He taught his two sons and grandkids how to fish and they still enjoy and go fishing on a regular basis to this day.

Herb was partners with his brother, Lawrence, and farmed the Singer Ranch in the 60s, 70 and 80s. They farmed grass seed, raised cattle and hay and grew various grains. They hosted the Singer Rodeo every Labor Day weekend for many years at the Singer Ranch. Herb and Dolores enjoyed 30 years of RV-ing and visited all 50 states. They traveled south for most of the 30 years and stayed along the Colorado River. Their favorite places were Riverside Adventure Trails (R.A.T.S.) in Ft. Mohave, Yuma and Parker, Ariz., meeting many friends along the way. They traveled many times into Mexico, shopping and sightseeing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Anne (Weigum) Singer, sisters Wilma "Paul, Bernie (Burgland)" Rosie (Fowler)," Nora (Nelson) and Carol (Kenna), brothers Cliff, Ozzie and Ray. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, of Post Falls, one sister, Darlene (Smith) of Palm Springs, Calif.; brothers Walt of Post Falls, Ben of Coeur d'Alene and Lawrence of Rathdrum; sons Bob and Dan, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, who all loved him dearly.
