UYLESS: Kudos for informative series

| August 3, 2022 1:00 AM

Kudos to The Coeur d’Alene Press and to Uyless Black for the five-part series on the pitfalls of relying on the internet and social media for objective news and information.

This should be required reading in schools — hopefully as part of a required broader class on the subject of scrutinizing media and public information received via the internet. The ability of the internet and social media to funnel people (voters) into echo chambers of one-sided, often erroneous, information is scary and must be recognized — no matter what your political affiliation.

Regular reminders of these dangers are needed and provide a valuable service to society. The topic is certainly worthy of further educational efforts — maybe in the form of additional articles in The Press, inclusion in school curriculum, and even the formation of local discussion groups to keep this critical topic on the front burner.
