LEVY: Has unanimous support from board, planning committee

| August 3, 2022 1:00 AM

As the chair and vice-chair of the Coeur d’Alene School District Long-Range Planning Committee, we ask that you vote yes on the Levy on Aug. 30. After hours analyzing the maintenance needs of district properties, the LRPC unanimously supported this proposal to the board.

The Coeur d’Alene school board then unanimously supported it and approved the levy for the ballot. We believe that the publicly available information overwhelmingly confirms that this is the most effective way to keep our children safe and our school facilities in good repair. As diverse as the LRPC and the Coeur d’Alene school board are, the fact that we are all united in our support of this proposal shows just how clear it is that we need to move now to meet the pressing needs of the district’s facilities.

Just as it is wise to get regular maintenance on your car or home to avoid even more costly repairs or replacements, we have a responsibility to be good stewards of the properties we’ve built for our community’s children. A leaky roof can lead to far greater expenses than a roof replacement when you consider what water damage can do to books, technology and furniture, and how it can lead to lost days, heating/cooling inefficiencies, mold and further structural damage. What our district is asking for is the equivalent of preventative oil changes. We are so grateful for our community’s continual support of education.
