NEW GROUP: Big tent tradition

| April 22, 2022 1:00 AM

I am a founding member of the North Idaho Republicans. We have come together to offer a different and more traditional viewpoint on what being a Republican can mean in comparison to what is displayed by the current Kootenai County Republican Central Committee (KCRCC), which is dominated by libertarian and constitutionalist philosophies, not Republican.

We all should respect open discussion and varying opinions as we make our decisions to elect our leaders. However, the Central Committee wants all control and to make the decision for you.

Over my 30 years living and working in this community as a Republican, I have witnessed good leadership from both Republicans and Democrats. That is because each was more interested in doing what was good for our community.

Civil discourse was important. Respect of differing opinions was necessary. Compromise was the basis for moving forward. Today we find less tolerance for all three of those tenets. Just look at the debacle at NIC.

Our organization, North Idaho Republicans, hopes to reinvigorate civility, respect and compromise. I hope if you are reading this you take the time to learn about us and if you agree there is a need for some change in the approach to selecting leaders in our communities, then join us today!
