Gonzaga women add Utah grad transfer Maxwell

SPOKANE — Gonzaga women's basketball coach Lisa Fortier announced the addition of Brynn Maxwell, a graduate transfer from Utah, on Wednesday.

Maxwell, a 6-foot guard, will join the Zags in the fall of 2022. Maxwell is graduating from Utah with a degree in communications and will have two years of eligibility.

Maxwell is a two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention and started in 63 games at Utah and played a total of 85. During her freshman year, she was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman first-team and became the first freshman for Utah since joining the Pac-12 to earn Pac-12 All-Conference honors. She currently ranks fifth all-time in program history in 3-pointers made in a season with 83 in 2019-20. Maxwell also has scored double figures in 52 games.

In the 2021-22 season, Maxwell averaged 10.5 points and 20.5 minutes a game.

At Gig Harbor (Wash.) High, she was the 3A State Player of the Year, Tacoma Tribune All-Area Player of the Year and the Gateway's Gig Harbor Female Athlete of the Year as a senior after leading her team to a state championship.

In state tournaments, she has the record in total points (83) and average points (27.7). A four-star recruit coming out of high school, she also has the school record for total points (1,968), points in a season (671 in 2019) and points in a game (48 in 2019). She averaged 26.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.6 steals per game as a senior.

"She is a great shooter, and has a team mentality," Fortier said. "She is coming to us with three years of college experience, and is ready to expand her game. She is a tireless worker with goals we can help her achieve."
