Coeur d’Alene (9-2, 6-2 IEL) won the first game 17-7 in five innings.

Makiya McPhedran-Torres connected on a three-run homer in the third inning for Coeur d’Alene, and Gosch hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to put the Vikings up 6-3.

Lewiston scored four times with two out in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead, capped by Loryn Barney’s two-run triple.

In the bottom of the inning, Alexis Blankenship walked, advanced on a single by Gosch and eventually scored on a wild pitch to tie the game for the Vikings.

Lewiston (11-3, 6-2 IEL) won the second game 7-2 to remain in first place in league.

Coeur d’Alene (10-4, 5-3) is tied with Post Falls (7-5, 5-3) in league, just behind Lake City (4-5, 4-2).

Schneider left with the lead in the seventh inning due to a pitch count, but Lewiston tied it at 4 with two in the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Mallory led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second by Alex Karns and scored on the lefty swinging Schneider’s base hit to left.

“Good for him,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said of Schneider. “He’s a real competitive kid. He wants to go out and finish every game. He threw very well in the first game.”

Mallory, one of seven seniors honored on senior day, went 4 for 5 on the day with an RBI and three runs scored.

In the second game, Jared Jelinek hit a two-run homer in the third inning for Lewiston, and Killian Fox scattered seven hits.

“Tip of the cap to Killian Fox; he’s a competitor too,” Erik Karns said.

Lewiston swept the Vikings in Lewiston last month.

“Lewiston is just too good of an offensive team that you can’t give them extra outs,” Karns said. “Our guys are confident we can hang with the real good teams … it’s a wide-open race.”
