WOOD: Behavior unbecoming

| April 17, 2022 1:00 AM

As an outsider, I was flabbergasted at Christie Wood’s intolerance toward a member of our community at the City Council meeting on April 5.

An artist was volunteering to become a member of our Arts Commission and another woman rose to speak against that appointment due to the explicit sexual nature of her artwork, most definitely NOT family-friendly. The speaker showed examples. That was all!

As she left the podium, Christie ANGRILY reamed her out for attacking “a member of our community” and that she would not have it!

I heard nothing against the artist as a person, only a reason for possibly politely declining the artist’s offer to volunteer. When the speaker tried to express that, the mayor would not allow her to defend herself against Christie’s uncalled for angry behavior and he threatened to have her taken from the council chambers by the police!

It was ugly.

That said, from the beginning of the NIC debacle, I remember thinking Christie Wood had finally found herself on a board, ELECTED BY THIS COMMUNITY, on which she was unable to have it her way so she went running to this newspaper for headline support. And she has had it ever since.

(An example: an article said ‘Christie “implored” Banducci…’ As I was reading the article, the word “badgered” jumped into my mind — and now that I have seen her in action, I believe that’s how it was, knowing she has always had the luxury of this paper supporting her. She is a button pusher.

(You need to know I am essentially a mild mannered person, but I can definitely see her pushing even me to my limits after witnessing her on April 5.) Christie’s agenda is the problem for NIC.

It has been ugly.

I pray that the ones selected to fill the three positions on the NIC BOARD will all have ACADEMICS foremost in their hearts and on their minds.

Yay, NIC, hang in there — this, too, shall pass.
