COUNTY: Ignore special interests

| April 17, 2022 1:00 AM

It is my understanding that until the Board of County Commissioners takes a vote to decide what to put on the November ballot regarding the form of government for Kootenai County, nothing is firm on just what changes, if any, there will be to the county government. There is a very loud special interest group shrieking about how any change would take away more of our freedoms — HOGWASH!

That small but loud group of persons are taking away my right to vote on a change or not, forcing me to comply with what they see as adequate and easier to control with their twisted philosophy.

There are numerous areas throughout this large diverse county that have never had a commissioner living in their area — prime example of this — the East Side of the Lake. Without living in a specific area, such as Rose Lake, Harrison Flats, the East Side, etc., there is no way any Commissioner can truly know the issues, impacts and problems being faced by those constituents. Yet, they are asked to make decisions impacting those that do live in those remote areas, and often they are wrong and hurtful decisions.

I, along with many others, want my right to vote on a change to our county government; I do not want one very loud group to make that decision for me. I, along with numerous other citizens, want five commissioners so our area can be better represented.

Commissioner Fillios — put that option on the ballot now and represent all your voting citizens! Not just one aggressive group that threatens you.
