PREP ROUNDUP: Timberlake baseball takes a pair of one-run chillers

SPIRIT LAKE — Caden Robinett’s 15 strikeout day didn’t get him the win on the mound in the first game for Timberlake against Kellogg on Wednesday.

But his bat in the bottom of the seventh did the job.

“He pitched really well,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “It was freezing and when the ball was hit, we were pretty sloppy. He got to clean it up and was happy for him that way. Able to close it out for us that way.”

Robinett singled to score Andrew Horn with the winning run as the Tigers beat the Wildcats 5-4 in the first game of an Intermountain League doubleheader. Timberlake won 7-6 in the second game to sweep the league opener for both teams.

Horn scored the go-ahead run in the second game on a steal of home for Timberlake (5-2).

“We did not come out very focused in the second game,” Johnson said. “Andrew is a Mr. Do-It-All kind of guy for us and when he got to third, he asked if he could steal home if they tried to pick the guy off first. I just told him not to get thrown out, and he said ‘I got you coach,’ and he went on the second pitch. It was just a gutsy kind of win. Kellogg’s a good team and has something going this year.”

Timberlake hosts St. Maries today at 4 p.m.
