REILLY: The f-bomb candidate

On Dec. 16, 2021, I attended the Post Falls Library Board meeting where speakers were welcome to address censorship of books in our public libraries. David Reilly was one of those who spoke.

At the end of his comments he turned and faced the audience. Gesturing with the sweep of his hand, he yelled, “You’re perverts… perverts!”

Needing clarification, I approached Mr. Reilly and asked if he could give me titles of two books that he believed should be censored. “Absolutely,” he replied and gave me two titles.

A woman approached us and challenged some of his comments. Visibly agitated, Mr. Reilly raised his voice and said, “Pedophilia and homosexuality are in the DSM-IV!” (The DSM reference texts are used by mental health experts to help diagnose and treat mental disorders).

I asked, “Oh, and what is your degree in?” In response, Mr. Reilly glared at me and with pointed finger raised his hand above his head and yelled, “F--K YOU!” (Within hearing of a library full of children.)

Fearfully, I took a step back as he once again raised his hand and yelled, “F--K YOU!” and left. Frightened, I waited until I believed he was gone, not wanting to encounter him in the parking lot.

Precinct Captain? Governor? Will Mr. Reilly’s derogatory language, short temper and vulgarity really bring “common sense and working-class values” to any political party? I think not!
