PREP BASEBALL: Butler sends Trojans to IEL sweep of Timberwolves
MARK NELKE/Press Pitcher Austin DeBoer of Post Falls fields a chopper back to the mound in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader vs. visiting Lake City.
POST FALLS — Jayden Butler’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning pushed the Post Falls Trojans past the Lake City Timberwolves in the second game of a 6-4 and 3-2 sweep on Tuesday at Post Falls High.
Butler scored Langan Naylor and Isaac Ziegler to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead.
“That was a clutch moment,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “We really needed that to come through and he was able to get the ball through to the outfield.”
Lake City took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the inning after Camdyn Martindale scored on a throwing error.
In the first game, Ziegler had two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs for Post Falls. Tyson Rutherford struck out seven in five innings for Post Falls (4-2, 2-0 IEL), which hadn’t played since March 12.
“I was happy with how they competed considering the weather and the wind,” Reese said. “We knew we were going to be rusty, but were able to grind out two wins.”
Ethan Taylor had two hits and a run scored in the first game for Lake City (0-5, 0-2).
On Saturday, Lake City visits Moscow and Post Falls travels to Lewiston for doubleheaders starting at noon.
