Jan Gawel

| September 30, 2021 1:00 AM

Our beloved Jan passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2021. Jan Gawel was born in Tuliglowy, Poland, on March 7, 1954. Jan brought his family over to America in 1991. He settled his family in Alaska and Washington state. Eventually, he moved to Idaho where he built a wonderful home on the Hoodoo Creek in Priest River. Jan often took extended trips to his home in Przemysl, Poland to be with family. Jan is survived by his former wife, and confidant, Krystyna, he leaves behind his son Dawid and Gracjan, granddaughter Skyler and two grandsons, Mikolaja and Szymon.

Anyone who met Jan was a potential friend for life. Jan made friends worldwide, working as a chief engineer in the Merchant Marine industry. Jan enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and almost every kind of building construction. Jan enjoyed cooking traditional Polish meals to the delight of friends and family alike. Jan was quick with a smile and always ready for humor. Being with his friends and loved ones was Jan’s favorite pastime. He was a generous man who often gave his time to anyone who needed it. Jan’s final resting place will be in Poland. We will miss him greatly.

Jan met Roxanne in 2011. They loved boating, camping and traveling together, especially to the national parks.

Jan was a great cook and loved inviting the whole neighborhood over for hunter stew and begos.

He loved being surrounded by family for the holidays.

Jan loved Roxanne's children and grandchildren as his own.

Jan wanted everyone to be happy. He loved his animals, especially Toby.

Kocham Cie, spoczywaj w pokoju.

Jan's funeral Mass will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine's in Priest River.
