RIVER: No excuse for sewage

| September 29, 2021 1:00 AM

I was on a canoe trip a month ago below the dam in Post Falls, where the third channel comes into the Spokane River. We see the sewage bubbling up in the river.

The raw sewage already has taken a toll on our water. It’s already surpassed the amount of waste this small river can handle. I saw two men in hardhats on the shoreline. I asked what they were doing. They were surveying for another culvert so the city could double the amount of waste they can dump into the river.

Since someone seriously lacking in any common sense, yet still in the position to make decisions, decided to let the city of Rathdrum pump their waste into Post Falls, then into the Spokane River. The same river that is supplying our drinking water.

Where are the environmental impact studies from the EPA when the river is at its lowest point? Tell me how this benefits the people of Post Falls in any way. While the stench on Seltice Way by the wastewater plant is already so horrendous, you almost get sick just driving by it. The river already stinks like solid waste and the trout population is almost nonexistent anymore.

Explain to me how this benefits OUR community, or should we ask how this has benefited those who let this happen. Who is responsible for this decision the people need to know names, so they can vote differently on election day?
