Philip Farr, 84

Philip Fredrick Farr, 84, entered Glory on Sept. 8, 2021. Born June 8, 1937, in Sweetgrass, Mont.; Phil grew up in Lewistown, Mont. Following graduation from Flathead High School in Kalispell in 1955, he entered the Navy serving as a submarine sonar operator for three years.

In 1960, Phil met his future bride of 60 years, Othilia “Terri” Roshau in Denver, Colo. Marrying on Jan. 5, 1961, Phil and Terri spent the following six months traveling throughout Western Europe where he facilitated missile installations. Returning from Europe, Phil worked a variety of jobs in California, Montana and Idaho.

The Farrs eventually settled in Ferry County, Washington, in 1966 where they resided until 2015. Phil utilized electrical skills learned in the Navy to wire several sawmills in the Kettle Falls area in addition to working his cattle and sheep ranches. He also enjoyed purchasing and reselling real estate throughout the years, allowing him to maintain his independence, which he greatly valued.

During a long winter in the early 1970s, Phil read through the entire Bible searching for the meaning of life. God mercifully revealed the Gospel of Christ and drew Phil to Him. Phil and Terri joined American Missionary Fellowship in 1977 where they served as missionaries in northeastern Washington for 19 years. Phil loved teaching Bible studies, running Vacation Bible Schools, leading summer Bible Camps, and teaching in many rural churches throughout Ferry and Stevens counties.

Phil and Terri enjoyed wintering in Arizona for many years before retiring in Hayden, Idaho, in 2015. Phil was a member of Hayden Bible Church.

Three siblings preceded Phil in death. Phil is survived by his wife, Terri, daughter Michelle Manteuffel (Mark) of Hayden Lake, son Brandon Farr of Coeur d’Alene, son Brady Farr (Candy) missionaries in Durban, South Africa, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
