Kickoff moved up for Idaho-Eastern football game

The Vandals and Eagles have been checked into an earlier time slot.

Kick time for the Idaho-Eastern Washington football game on Oct. 16 at Roos Field in Cheney has been moved to 11:30 a.m.

The game is broadcasted on ROOT Sports and was adjusted from an original 1 p.m. kickoff time to allow the network to air the NHL's Seattle Kraken game later that day.

The Kraken are scheduled to play at the Columbus Blue Jackets at 4 p.m. PDT.

Gates will open at 10 a.m.

WSU's Timmer named nNational Player of the Week

Washington State junior Pia Timmer was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I Women Player of the Week as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Tuesday morning.

Timmer became just the second Cougar to take home the national award, joining Sarah Silvernail who took home the award Nov. 3-10, 1996.

Earlier in the week Timmer was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after leading the Cougs to wins over No. 24 Colorado (3-0) and No. 6 Washington (3-2) to begin conference play. The wins ran the Cougs' winning streak to eight straight matches including a 5-0 mark at home to begin the season.

In a weekend for the ages, Timmer put together one of the all-time great performances on Sunday afternoon in Bohler against No. 6 Washington. In one of the longest matches in NCAA history, Timmer tied a WSU rally-score record with 31 kills on 76 swings in a five-set victory over the Huskies at Bohler Gym in Pullman.

WSU brings back ZZU Mania on Oct. 15

Washington State's men's and women's basketball teams will be showcased at ZZU Mania, a free fan event open to students and the general public, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15.

The introductory extravaganza is scheduled for Bohler Gym, with doors opening at 6 p.m., one hour before the event begins.

The event will include a Skills Challenge that will feature squads made up of players from both the men's and women's teams culminating in a championship final between the bigs and the guards. Breaking off on their own, the women's team will compete in a 3-point shootout. The night culminates with the men's dunk contest.

The regular season for WSU begins Nov. 9 with a doubleheader at Beasley Coliseum. The Coug men will host Alcorn State followed by the women taking on San Jose State.

Bella Murekatete, from Genesis Prep Academy in Post Falls, is a junior center for the WSU women.
