Daryl Lee Medley, 60

Daryl Lee Medley, 60, lost his 5-year battle with cancer at home in Athol, Idaho, with his loving family by his side on Sept. 25, 2021. Now he is pain free, and there’s no doubt he is hunting with his dad Ted, father-in-law Bill and friend Mel.

Daryl was born on Jan. 18, 1961, to Ted Medley and Barbara Miller. He grew up and went to school in Post Falls. He later moved to Athol with his grandparents, Bruce and Bonnie Anderson.

On June 24, 1984, he married Janet Lee Evans, his “Tumble Weed.” They resided in Athol where they raised their three children, Mandy Medley (Fast), Angie Medley (Lounsbury) and D.J. Medley. For the last 35 years, Daryl was a professional painter and painted many homes in the North Idaho area.

Daryl loved to elk hunt with his family and friends, watching Seahawks games, and listening to Rock 94½ (but especially Guns N’ Roses). He also enjoyed kayaking, boating, camping, cutting firewood and sitting around the campfire with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Medley; two daughters, Mandy Fast and Angie Lounsbury; son, D.J. Medley; two sons-in-law, Gary Fast and Brian Lounsbury; daughter-in-law, Jamie Medley; two dogs, Mattie and Sadie; eight grand dogs; mom, Barbara Miller; stepmom, Gail Medley; sister, Sheryl Nelson; brother, Mike Medley; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, LeeAnne Ellis. He is preceded in death by his father, Ted Medley; father-in-law, Bill Evans; and lifelong friend, Mel Ellis.

He was loved by all of his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Janet will always love her “Widdle Buddy!”

Anyone who wants to have a beer for Daryl, a Celebration of Life will be from noon – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, in the Main Room at the Athol Community Center, potluck and BYOB.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Daryl’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
